Haleem (Halim) Mauritian Style Recipe

Ingredients

Ingredients for Haleem (Halim) Recipe:

  • 1 1/2 lb meat on the bone
  • 3 tbsp of any cooking oil
  • 60 gm each black lentil, red lentil & split peas
  • 3 tbsp oatmeal (Quaker oats)
  • 3 tbsp coriander, mint & spring onion chopped finely. ( keep garnishing)
  • Some fried onion (1 cup)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp garam masalla
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 1 medium size onion slice
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp corriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 lemon

Method

Preparation of Haleem(Halim) Mauritian Style Recipe:

  1. Add oil to pressure cooker let the meat simmer well, then add 2 cups of water, wait for 3 whistle
  2. then add all the daal & add 1 more cup of water IF required.
  3. Add all the dried spices at 1 go in the pressure cooker, wait for 2-3 whistle.
  4. While waiting for pressure cooker soak the oatmeal in water.
  5. Then transfer from pressure cooker to an ordinary pot.
  6. Add oat meal in the pot, stir often to avoid it stick to the bottom of the pot.
  7. Once you get the required thickness, turn off the heat & add all the garnishing mint, coriander & spring onion & half the fried onion.
  8. Serve piping hot sprinkle with lemon juice & fried onion, eat with baguette or any other bread with chilli (pima crazer)
  9. Bon appetit Haleem(Halim) is ready to eat.
