Petit Pain au Lait (Homemade Milk Bread)

Ingredients

Ingredients for Petit Pain au Lait (Homemade Milk Bread) recipe:

  • 4 cups of all purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp of instant yeast
  • 1 2/3 cup of warm milk (110 degree )
  • 2 tsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp of granulated sugar
  • 1 egg wash (an egg beat with a bit of water or milk)
  • 2-3 tablespoons sunflower or vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp of sesame seeds

Method

Preparation of Petit Pain au Lait (Homemade Milk Bread):

  1. In an stand mixer bowl add the milk, sugar, and yeast along with the flour and salt. Using an dough attachment start mixing on low for 5 minutes then switch to medium and let the machine knead the dough for 10 minutes.
  2. Spread some dry flour on the working surface and knead the dough for 2minutes by hand, drizzle some vegetables oil in the bowl and put the dough back cover and let rise for 45 minutes to an hour or until double in size.
  3. Divide the dough into 6 or 8 equal pieces, flatten and fold from the right side to the middle and the left to the middle and fold in half and pinch the middle tightly and lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper seam sides down.
  4. Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake on an preheated oven of 425 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
